I’m excited to offer this introductory conversation into “Activism in the Birth Room” with Aimee Brill of Doula Trainings International. As Aimee and I started brainstorming about how to be sure to package this content in just the right way, we found that there are really several parts to this discussion, all of which deserve their own space. And the timing couldn’t be more ripe.
In this section, we talk about three things:
- The stark reality of abuse in today’s maternity care system.
- How that reality demands that we re-evaluate and transform birth work so that we are able to truly support birthing people in this climate.
- The importance of offering ourselves grace in the painful transition process.
This truly is a conversation that requires all of our voices. Please leave us a comment or question, below! We’re all in this together!
I hope you’ll return for our follow-up discussions about specific tools and skills that Aimee uses in training new doulas with the specific aim of mitigating abuse. Check out Part Two HERE!
